Grayton Beach Homes: Vacation And For Life
Grayton Beach is one of the oldest communities in this area, dating back to 1885, when Major Charles T. Gray homesteaded here. In 1890, General William Miller and William Wilson moved into the area and the village was mapped out. Today, a mix of modern and historic architecture stands as testimony to over 100 years of community living.
The history of Grayton Beach homes begins with the Wash-A-Way, the only standing building thought to have been built around 1890. You can still find the old wooden beach homes that housed many a growing family throughout the years. Even today, when houses in Grayton Beach sell for well over $1 million, the wild, undeveloped atmosphere still exists.
The motto for Grayton Beach is "nice dogs, strange people". A small Florida town atmosphere pervades the area, where friendly dogs still lazily wag up to you from where they were lying on the front porch and people set aside their modern-day suspicion to greet you with the hospitality of times gone by. The motto also points to the little forays into whimsy that Grayton Beach residents indulge in, such as the "dog wall", where locals have painted pictures of their faithful companions.
Grayton Beach homes are only a short walk away from the community's unique establishments. Look for the Red Bar, with its relaxed atmosphere and live jazz band that plays almost every night. Or, head over to the Hibiscus Coffee and Guesthouse, ensconced in a home built in 1903. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy swimming and other ocean sports on the white sand beaches, cycling along Highway 30-A and the many hiking and nature watching opportunities in the area.
Grayton Beach homes for sale are definitely upscale, but not pretentious. You can live in a turn-of-the century beach cottage or a luxurious beach house with all the amenities and its own private pool. Grayton Beach is guarded from sprawl by the surrounding protected land that keeps this community close to its roots. If you're looking for a place where you can enjoy a relaxing vacation or live surrounded by people who are as unique as the town they live in, a Grayton Beach home is certainly something to consider.
