Four Mile Village Homes

Four Mile Village History

In 1930 this unique property comprised 3,000 acres and was purchased by Robert Bushnell who planned to use the land to raise livestock and grow crops. During World War II a large portion of his property was requisitioned by the military as a top-secret base to research captured German "Buzz Bomb" missiles. The nation's first American rockets were tested and launched out over the gulf from forested bunkers near the beach, the remnants of which can still be seen to this day. After World War II the property transferred in its entirety to Bushnell's sister Dorothy Coffeen who established her family's home there and donated 197 acres in trust to the Sierra Club. Eventually, the rest of the original property was sold and used to create the Sandestin Beach Resort.
